1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing, building from source, or using Synesis, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the software.
2. License to use
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Synesis on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and any license file distributed with the software (for example a repository LICENSE when published). Source code availability on GitHub does not by itself expand this license beyond what that file and these Terms state.
You may not misrepresent the software as an official product of Microsoft, Google, or any mail host you connect to.
3. Accounts and third-party services
Synesis connects to third-party mail and identity providers you choose (including Microsoft, Google, and IMAP/SMTP hosts). You are responsible for:
- Keeping your credentials and devices secure.
- Complying with each provider's terms of service, acceptable use, and API policies.
- Ensuring you have the right to access the mailboxes you connect.
We are not a party to your agreements with those providers. Provider outages, rate limits, revoked OAuth grants, or policy changes may limit or break sync; that is outside LiveBytes' control.
4. Local-first nature; no Synesis mail hosting
Synesis stores mail and settings on your device and syncs with your providers. LiveBytes does not operate a Synesis-hosted mailbox and does not guarantee availability of any particular provider's service.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Synesis to:
- Abuse, overload, or circumvent provider APIs, rate limits, or security controls.
- Send spam, malware, phishing, or other unlawful or harmful communications.
- Violate applicable law, including privacy, export, and computer-fraud rules.
- Reverse engineer the app solely to defeat security or licensing measures, except where such restriction is prohibited by law.
6. No warranty
Synesis is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that mail will sync completely under all network or provider conditions.
This is indie software published for real use and for the giggles — still shipped with care, still without a guarantee.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, LiveBytes and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, mail, profits, or business opportunities, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Synesis — even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to the software or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us specifically for Synesis in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) USD $0 if the software was provided free of charge.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent allowed.
8. Privacy
Our handling of information is described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Material changes may also be noted on the product page. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and — where a specific state is required — [State] (replace with your jurisdiction before publish). Courts in that jurisdiction will have exclusive venue for disputes that are not subject to a mandatory consumer venue rule in your location.
